After reading that Heartland Brewery had a gluten-free menu, and knowing that it is only 4 blocks from my office, I convinced co-workers to join me there for lunch one day.
I am always super excited when there is actually a GF menu and I don’t need to ask a thousand questions and the waiters actually know what I am talking about.
However, what I didn’t realize is that only one of the Heartland Brewery locations offers a GF menu; the midtown west (41st and 8th Ave.), not the other midtown west (51st & 6th Ave) which is where I went.
Not only did they not have a gluten-free menu, the waiter had no clue about what was and what was not gluten-free. He even initially told me I could have the turkey burger sans bun which I knew, and later had him confirm, was not GF.
I played it safe and order a regular burger on a bed of lettuce, with no fries:
Nothing extraordinary and pretty run of the mill. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty disappointed I didn’t take them to Shake Shack instead.
I’ll save that for next time.
