While you are sweating it out in the 90+ degree NYC weather, trying not to melt while you wait for the 6 train, your Instagram feed is flooded with vacation photos overlooking the vast Mediterranean Sea in the beautiful isles of Greece.

As much as I’d love to be on a yacht cruising around Mykonos, my day job and bank account take priority over my day dreams. So what to do when you’re yearning for a taste of the Mediterranean but confined by the limits of Manhattan? Grab a taste of Greece at Thalassa in TriBeCa.

Chef Ralpheal Abrahante is serving up an array of contemporary Greek dishes including an abundance of fresh seafood; so fresh that they even have it on display when you walk in:

Fresh fish is not the only decor they have going on. The place is beautifully designed; boasting 18 foot ceilings, and a 40 foot long wine cellar downstairs.

I recently attended a press dinner at Thalassa. The best part about these dinners? You don’t need to decide what to get because it’s chosen for you. And, my dishes are confirmed gluten-free by the chef and servers.

That being said, we were served:

(GF) Sea bass with sauteed spinach, lemons & capers

(GF) Grilled Octopus w/ micro greens & viniagrette

Scallops wrapped in kataifi filo w/ balsamic reduction

(GF) Option for the scallops – no filo

(GF) Pikilia – assorted Greek dips [ask for cucumber]

Zucchini Chips w/ tzatiki (sorry, not GF)

(GF) Horiatiki – Authentic Greek Salad

(GF) Salmon Tartare

(GF) Fluke Crudo w/ blood orange, evoo, fennel & micro greens

(GF) Scallop Ceviche

Overall the food was delicious. So good in fact I passed on dessert (a rare occasion).

Rating: A
Pros: Beautiful ambiance. Tons of gluten-free options. Fresh seafood.
Cons: If you live uptown like me, it’s a hell of a commute
